About Aileen Schier

I paint as a way to really pay attention in stillness to my experience of the world. The way light reveals form and color and can suggest meaning has always fascinated me, both in my practice of architecture and as an artist. The simplicity of everyday objects is no obstacle to the beauty of these interactions. I am interested in artisanship and in the way we humans find meaning — both inherent and attributed — in the material world.

Aileen is a Bay Area native, an alumna of the Oakland Public Schools, Stanford (BA), and UCLA (Master of Architecture). In the last few years she has been moving from architecture and garden design into fine arts — watercolor, gouache, and oils — inspired by community classes, books, travel, and the explosion of online art education sources.
